Sam Wong is a photographer and cinematographer based in Vancouver, BC. He is a recent graduate of the BFA Photography program at Emily Carr University of Art + Design.
Cognitive, behavioural, and social psychology are the dominant themes in his work, driving his explorations of human perception, emotion, and identity. Through the process of image-making, he reshapes these experiential ideas into tangible visuals or narratives.
Photography and composited images are the mediums of his choice, however he often ventures into the realms of video, short films, or installations. As a photographer with great interest in cinema, the images he creates often borrow technical and conceptual components from film such as elements of time, projection, matte painting, and parallax as tools to assist in evoking or conveying core ideas.
Through creating visual spectacles, often-overlooked ideas about the internal and external attributions of human psychology are candidly presented to the viewer. Viewers are then challenged to confront the motivations behind their own behaviours as well as those of the individuals they interact with.
